SEASTAR - CYNTHIA CURTIS

SEASTAR
 stoneware ceramic platter

Coming to the Rocky Neck Gallery window this Friday is work by our popular artist Cynthia Curtis.  Using the potter's wheel, Cynthia throws the large platter and then presses a dried starfish into center of the soft clay.  She then places local beach glass on the rim of the platter and fires the piece to 2300 degrees F.  The glass melts down the rim over the bluegreen glaze onto the starfish giving the platter a spectacular water-like effect.

The size of this luscious stoneware ceramic platter is 14" wide x 2" high and is priced at $225.  You can see more of Cynthia's work at the gallery but just know her ceramics fly out the gallery.  She will be part of the next Summer Artist Series show titled Earthly Delights: From Wood to Watts, Sculptural and Functional Ceramics.  This show, featuring 14 ceramic artists, opens on July 18th and runs for three weeks.  See more details on this exhibit in our blog tomorrow.
