EARTHLY DELIGHTS

For the first time Rocky Neck Gallery's next Summer Artist Series features a group ceramics show titled Earthly Delights: From Wood to Watts, Sculptural and Functional Ceramics.

This exhibit opens Wednesday, July 18th and runs for three weeks until August 7th, 2012.

Fourteen ceramic artists are participating in this show ranging from experienced wood fire potters from Susan Hershey’s Pigeon Hill Pottery Wood Fire Group to teachers and accomplished emerging artists from Rockport's Friday morning class at Cynthia Curtis Pottery in Rockport, MA. The artists are: Cindy Burns, Diane Chiofaro, Linda Comb, Susan Hershey, Anni Melançon, Wendy Morgan, Kathy Morris, Sarah Mowitt, Jenny Rangan, Patricia Reed, Martha Thurk, Lisa Vincent, Seyrel Williams and Christopher Wood.  Susan Hershey is a juried member of the Rocky Neck Gallery.

Wood fire and electric fire artists come together here to create a functional and sculptural feast for the eyes. Techniques from both ancient and modern traditions allow visitors to experience some of the diverse influences that inform ceramic art today, from the boisterous flame of a wood firing to the relative calm of an electric kiln. Each piece reflects the intention of the artist merged with the subtle and sometimes not so subtle unpredictability that Mother Nature adds to the process.

On Sunday, July 22nd, please join us for the artists' reception from 2 - 4 PM.  A presentation, at 3 PM, includes Jenny Rangan and Seyrel Williams talking about the art of firing in an electric kiln and Susan Hershey describing the wood firing process.
