Rocky Neck Gallery is pleased to announce the next and last exhibit of the Summer Artist Series for this 2012 season. The new show titled “Memories, Love and Personal Growth," features the work of photographer, Janet E. Souza. This opens next week on Thursday, September 20th, and runs until Tuesday, October 16th.
At a young age, Souza took an interest in photography honing that passion further by studying black & white photography in high school. She studied digital photography, abstract painting & fashion at Montserrat College of Art. There she focused on the works of Cindy Sherman, Francesca Woodman, Helmut Newton, Nan Golden, Jeff Koons, Barbara Kruger, Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock. In 2004, she left Massachusetts, driving cross country to live in Los Angeles. She attended the Burning Man Festival in 2005 and this event inspired her to create several paintings, as well as to photograph the experience. From there Souza embarked on her own personal and artistic adventures creating series of works influenced by her favorite films.
Having explored numerous other venues, Souza returned to Gloucester, her hometown, in 2008. She is a member of the North Shore Art Association, Rocky Neck Art Colony and SeARTS.
The public is invited to meet this artist at the opening reception on Sunday, Sept. 23, from 2-4 p.m. Please join us in welcoming Janet E Souza to Rocky Neck Gallery and view her show "Memories, Love and Personal Growth".
