CELEBRATING

This past Saturday night, Rocky Neck Gallery hosted a private party celebrating the customers and friends of the gallery.  The gallery is still glowing in the positive buzz this first ever event created.  Here are photographs of the evening courtesy of RNG artist and photograper Tom Robinson-Cox.  Please see our prior post featuring more photographs of this festive affair.

ROCKY NECK GALLERY CELEBRATES

Rocky Neck Gallery hosted it very first exclusive party honoring the gallery and artists' patrons and fans.  The gathering attracted a lively crowd in a festive mood to celebrate!  It was a night of music, drinking bubbly, sampling delicious hors d'oeuvres and gathering of friends meeting new friends.  Here are some photographs from the party, courtesy of RNG artist and photographer Michael Seif.  More photos to follow this week.

MEMORIES, LOVE & PERSONAL GROWTH - JANET E SOUZA

UNTOUCHABLE

Rocky Neck Gallery is pleased to announce the next and last exhibit of the Summer Artist Series for this 2012 season.  The new show titled “Memories, Love and Personal Growth," features the work of photographer, Janet E. Souza.  This opens next week on Thursday, September 20th, and runs until Tuesday, October 16^th.   

 At a young age, Souza took an interest in photography honing that passion further by studying black & white photography in high school. She studied digital photography, abstract painting & fashion at Montserrat College of Art.  There she focused on the works of Cindy Sherman, Francesca Woodman, Helmut Newton, Nan Golden, Jeff Koons, Barbara Kruger, Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock. In 2004, she left Massachusetts, driving cross country to live in Los Angeles. She attended the Burning Man Festival in 2005 and this event inspired her to create several paintings, as well as to photograph the experience. From there Souza embarked on her own personal and artistic adventures creating series of works influenced by her favorite films. 

Having explored numerous other venues, Souza returned to Gloucester, her hometown, in 2008.  She is a member of the North Shore Art Association, Rocky Neck Art Colony and SeARTS.  

The public is invited to meet this artist at the opening reception on Sunday, Sept. 23, from 2-4 p.m.  Please join us in welcoming Janet E Souza to Rocky Neck Gallery and view her show "Memories, Love and Personal Growth".  

PHYLLIS FELD

This week Rocky Neck Gallery will feature the work of new artist member, Phyllis Feld, in both the window and the big work wall.  For the window, Feld’s painting Sumac will be shown for one week from Friday, September 14^th until Thursday evening, September 20^th.

In describing her inspiration for this landscape Feld says, “The strong diagonal formed by the marching sumac and the whimsical romp of the wildflowers in this landscape spoke to me."  

Rocky Neck Gallery’s big work wall space will feature two paintings showcasing Feld's talent as both a plein air and still life artist.  These two works will be exhibited for two weeks from Friday, September14^th until Thursday evening, September 27^th.

Phyllis Feld is artist painting landscapes plein air or working as a portrait and still life painter.  Feld has traveled to France, Italy and Cape Cod to find her landscapes. She is a graduate of Pratt's Institute's department of Interior Design.  After a rewarding career as an interior designer and raising a family, Feld began her painting studies at the Museum of Fine Arts.   She is an artist member of the North Shore Arts Association, an associate member of the Rockport Art Association and also a member of both the Newton and Concord Art Association. Feld has exhibited extensively along with receiving many awards for her paintings.

To see these paintings and more of her work stop by 53 Rocky Neck Avenue.  The gallery is open 7 days a week.

MARY RHINELANDER - FISH

Our featured artist for this week's Rocky Neck Gallery window is Mary Rhinelander.  Mary constructs, by hand, her one-of-a-kind wire, found objects and seaglass fish.  Each fish is unique and very popular here at Rocky Neck Gallery.  They generally run slightly longer than one foot and range in price from $225 - $500, according to dimension and complexity.  The fish are inspired by Alexander Calder's 1944 work, aptly entitled "Fish"! 

Mary has an MFA in Printmaking from the School of Museum of Fine Arts. This might suggest that she is a printmaker. She is!  However, Mary also paints, cuts, glues, builds, sews, tears, hammers, splatters, and generally mixes up her media pretty thoroughly. Although Mary has only the greatest respect for artists who suffer and live in garrets with no heat, she has lived a relatively comfortable life and LOVES the act of creating and is passionate about color—especially yellow.
