Joyce Frederick is this week's Rocky Neck Gallery featured artist for the Big Art Wall.  Her powerful painting titled CRX#1 is a personal statement and celebration of being cancer free.  This painting is based on a chest x-ray Frederick had in 2003.  By having this x-ray from 03 it allowed her and her doctors to monitor the health of her lungs. She underwent surgery in January and treatment and is now exploring that process in a planned series of paintings.  This is her first and it is a compelling painting to see.  The work will be on view until Thursday, August 9th.  See this and more of Frederick's work at Rocky Neck Gallery.  

SETTING UP EARTHLY DELIGHTS

The Summer Artist Series show Earthly Delights: From Woods to Watts - Sculptural and Functional Ceramics is on view at Rocky Neck Gallery until August 7th.  For fun here are some pictures showing how the artists tranformed the space into an eclectic display of wonderfully unique must-have ceramic pieces.

The artist are wood fire potters from Susan Hershey’s Pigeon Hill Pottery Wood Fire Group to teachers and accomplished emerging artists from Rockport's Friday morning class at Cynthia Curtis Pottery in Rockport, MA.

MARY McCARL - WINDOW ART

KELP ON THE MARGIN

This week Rocky Neck Gallery's window features a painting by artist Mary McCarl.  Her painting is titled Kelp on the Margin.  This is acrylic on paper measuring 20 by 26 inches framed at $250.00.

Mary magnificently captures the look of wet sand and ocean plants.  She expertly plays with the vibrancy of pinky orange and cobalt blue colors contrasting with burnt sienna.  See this painting and more of Mary's colorful work at the gallery.  Rocky Neck Gallery is open 7 days a week.

EARTHLY DELIGHTS RECEPTION

Last Sunday afternoon Rocky Neck Gallery was transformed by a lively crowd of fans and friends attending the Summer Artist Series new show titled:  Earthly Delights - From Wood to Watts Sculptural and Functional Ceramics.

ELIZABETH GAUTHIER - NEW SHOW

Elizabeth Gauthier, a new artist member of the Rocky Neck Gallery, is having a show of her paintings this weekend.  She will be showing on 35 Main Street, downtown Gloucester today, Friday through Sunday.

In talking to Elizabeth about her work she says:  My interest has always been found in trying to capture a feeling of simplicity thru form and color. These components show the heart and character of the New England I love. I feel that this group of paintings represents the rich historical and dramatic geography of the North Shore. Cape Ann, my home and my community, has been an important subject and influence in my art and life.

Along with the large oil pictured above, a painting included in her solo show this past June in the season's opening Summer Artist Series, Elizabeth will also be showing several other new works.

SUSAN DALY - WINDOW ART

Rocky Neck Gallery’s window is now featuring a painting by Susan Daly.  Her new work is a watercolor on Yuppo paper titled Marrakech Souk.  This work is 31 x 27 inches framed and priced at $550.

Susan travels with her paints to many exotic locations around the world.  Her recent trip to the souks of Marrakech inspired this painting.  Unfortunately, an image is not available to post on this blog but this work can be seen from today until next Friday, July 27^th.

Susan is a signature member of the New England Watercolor Society and Rhode Island Watercolor Society.  She is an artist member of these fine Massachusetts art associations: North Shore Art Association; the Copley Society; the Rockport Art Association; the Marblehead Art Association and Florida’s Naples Art Association.  Susan's paintings have won many awards and are included in several corporate collections.  She has a studio in her home at Wingaersheek Beach, Gloucester, MA and her home in Naples, FL.

NEW ART ON BIG WALL

This week artist/printmaker Deborah Guertz will have a large work on the big wall.  Currently an image is unavailable but here is a sample of her work so please stop in the gallery and see her intricate etchings and monotypes.

Geurtze's work reflect her deep connection with nature, a force that directs both her life and her art. In describing her work, the artist notes, "Wilderness – its patterns and complexity – are a continual source of inspiration. My panoramas explore the ever changing natural world and give expression to themes of passage –from dark to light, along a country road, from man-made to overgrown, chaotic splendor."

She attended Rhode Island School of Design and studied printmaking with Robert Bero at the State University College of Potsdam, N.Y.  After teaching abroad at the American school of Tangier, Morocco, and at Vail (Co.) Mountain School, Guertze returned to upstate New York, and established her studio in an historic 1838 Greek revival "mansion", where she worked for 25 years. In 2011 she moved to Rocky Neck.

Guertze's work on the Big Art Wall will be up from July 19th until August 1st.
