RNG ARTISTS GIVE WORKSHOPS!


Explore your creativity with a mosaic workshop with Pam Stratton!  This one day workshop is for beginner and intermediate mosaic artists.  Enjoy a day with friends creating mosiacs in her beautiful studio in Rockport, MA.  Here you have the option to make a 6 x 6 smalti mosaic or 2 mixed media wands 16" x 1.25" (picture below).  



The dates are Saturday, June 28th or July 12th form 9 AM - 5 PM.  The cost is $150.00 plus $25 for artist materials with a delicious lunch included.

Martha Wakefield is teaching a 3 -day painting workshop : Learn the Painting Language at Mother Brook Arts & Community Center in Dedham, MA.

The workshop starts next Friday, June 6 - Sunday, June 8th.

Learn how to become a stronger painter and develop your skills by exploring the elements of the painting language: color, shape, line, texture, size and direction.  In this 3-day workshop we will cover these concepts on form and through lecture/demos, viewing master artworks and doing painting exercises students will strengthen their comprehension of the visual language.  Class time will allow students to paint with individual attention.  Each day ends with a critique/class discussion.  Watermedia.

Mary Rhinelander will be the quest printmaker this Friday, 5/30 at the Sarah Elizabeth Shop until 2 PM.  She prints a great selection of greeting cards that are sold at the store.  Stop by and say hello!

RNG PARTIES!

RNG new window display... & the fun is inside!


Rocky Neck Gallery hosted the opening reception last night and place was mobbed with artists, friends, fans and families all celebrating the start of the new season!

The festivities started on time due to an organized crew preparing the gallery under the leadership of Events Chair Susan Hershey!  Here are pictures from last night that say more than words what an happening it was.  Do check out our Facebook page for more photos of the party!

2014 marks the tenth year that the Rocky Neck Gallery has operated as a Rocky Neck Art Colony artist-run collective gallery.   Join us in celebrating this occasion at the opening reception this Saturday, May 24, from 6 - 8 PM.  The gallery is known for hosting lively parties with delicious treats and generous libations.

Former Goetemann Artist Resident, Ken Beck Highlights Celebration
 

A highlight of this year's celebration is a one-man exhibition of paintings by Ken Beck, a former Goetemann Artist Resident, who participated in a month-long residency on Rocky Neck in 2007.  He is the first Goetemann resident to be selected for an "Alumni Exhibition" that honors past residency artists. 

Beck's work is about the New England coast and his relationship to the sea, including some paintings, like Rocky Face Study (right) that were completed during his 2007 residency.
This exhibits kicks off the Summer Artist Series : six 3-week shows by Rocky Neck Art Colony members, many of whom are not part of the gallery.
 
The Rocky Neck Gallery Artist Collective functions as a co-operative, sharing the gallery duties among the members and sharing commissions on sales with the Rocky Neck Art Colony. The gallery partners with the Cultural Center Gallery at 6 Wonson Street. Together they represent a program of the Art Colony to showcase regional contemporary artists.

RNG CLEANS UP



The spring cleaning continues at Rocky Neck Gallery with many of the member artists sprucing up the space.  By opening day, next Friday, May 23rd, visitors will see a transformed gallery filled with original distinctive art, color, light and vibrant energy!




Jewelry artists Deborah Way and Judith Bly prepare all the glass jewelry cases for display of their lines of exquisite jewelry.  Katherine Bagley and Mary Rhinelander McCarl are the gallery's other jewelry artists also designing original one-of-a-kind pieces.




Here is a sample of images from Deborah Way's website of the type of jewelry she creates and is available at Rocky Neck Gallery.  The gallery opens for the 2014 season next Friday 5/23 and is open 7 days a week (Sunday - Wednesday 11 - 6 PM; Thursday - Saturday 11 - 8 PM) and always staffed by artist members.  We look forward to your visit!

FRESH PAINT

Rocky Neck Gallery received a new look by the talented and award-winning photographers Skip Montello and Tom Robinson-Cox!  New white walls are installed near the reception area and all other walls are refreshed with a coat of white paint in readiness for the opening next week.




The gallery opens in a week on Friday, May 23rd from 11 AM - 8 PM for the 2014 season.  25 juried artists will be exhibiting original distinctive artwork in paintings, ceramics, jewelry, photography, printmaking and mixed media.  




2014 marks the tenth year that the Rocky Neck Gallery has operated as a Rocky Neck Art Colony artist-run collective gallery.  On Saturday, May 24, from 6-8 PM the gallery will host a opening reception celebrating this milestone.  

The public is invited to join this festive event as the gallery is known for hosting lively parties serving delicious treats and generous libations!

PAM STRATTON HOSTS MOSAIC WORKSHOP!

Rocky Neck Gallery's mosaic artist Pam Stratton is hosting Dagmar Friedrich, a mosaic artist from Spilimbergo Italy, to conduct a workshop in Mosaic Lime Technique on May 23 - May 26th! 





This technique can be used as a surround or incorporated into a mosaic. Dagmar is a trained mosaic artist from the Scuola Mosaicisti Friuli school and has been teaching at the school in their summer program along with workshops in her own atelier in Spilimbergo

Dates: Friday, May 23 through Monday, May 26.

Class times are 8:30 - 12:30 and 2 - 5:30. (limited to 8 people)

Cost: $550 prepaid to reserve your place. 


$50 materials fee paid at beginning of class, includes use of tools; hammer and hardie smalti, marble, substrate, – gold is extra.  Send proposals by email to Dagmar at dagmafri@yahoo.de

NEW SEASON


Rocky Neck Gallery is gearing up for the new season with lots of exciting updates.  Twenty seven juried artists return for 2014 featuring the best in painting, photography, jewelry, ceramics, mixed media, mosaics and printmaking.  See the gallery's artist list to the right of this post.  Click on any name to view more of their work.




The gallery has a new name: Rocky Neck Gallery Artist Collective!  A new gallery sign is in development to highlight this upscale collection.

The Summer Artist Series return with 7 exciting exhibits featuring regional artists in painting, photography, jewelry and pastels.  Stay tuned for more postings on this in the days ahead.

Nights on the Neck, a festive evening of art, entertainment, delicious treats and fun happens on the first Thursdays of July, August & September: July 10th, August 7th & September 4th - mark you calendars!

The gallery opens on Friday, May 23rd from 11 AM - 8 PM with the season's opening artists reception on Saturday, May 24th from 6 - 8 PM.  This event is free and open to the public.

And another important fact: the gallery is staffed by the artists!  This provides a great opportunity to come in, meet the artist and see the original artwork of this amazing collective!
